We're running a remix and an artwork contest for Gavin Hardkiss revolving around his track "Monday Comes And Goes," recorded under the artist name Hawke for his acclaimed Eighth Dimension album +++.

The remix contest is in collaboration with Remixin.com and ends April 7. In addition to the winning remix being used in an upcoming Eighth Dimension single, the winner also receives prizes such as a Novation Launch Pad and a bit of musical goodies. Eclectic mixes are the key here ... Gavin himself will be selecting the winner and as you might guess he has quite an eccentric taste.

We're also running a parallel contest to determine the artwork for the single in collaboration with Creative Allies. Prizes include Sony Creative's Vegas Pro software suite and some cash. Again, Gavin Hardkiss is judging the contest and is open to surprises.

For information on the remix contest go here: www.remixin.com/contest/hawke
We hope you can take part! Some bits about "Monday Comes And Goes" and Gavin Hardkiss/Hawke below:
The new album by San Francisco’s Hawke, enigmatically titled +++, strives to defy categorization on many levels. Conceived by legendary psychedelic dance producer Gavin Hardkiss +++ blurs musical boundaries as well as the lines separating audio and visual work.

In the spirit of collaboration and genre-bending, Gavin Hardkiss invites you to be a part of the first remix single from +++. The album’s lead track, “Monday Comes And Goes,” will be openly remixed by the Remixin.com community while the cover art will be created by users of www.creativeallies.com/jobs/show/25]CreativeAllies.com. Gavin will be involved in the process personally selecting the remix and artwork that will accompany the single to be released in May 2010 by Eighth Dimension Records. The participants will be promoted worldwide with the single, which will also contain remixes by established electronic artists Q-Burns Abstract Message and Tal M. Klein of Aniligital Music.
"The Hawke material that I have produced for two decades has always been a collaborative effort between myself and the super talented people that surround me. The most recent Hawke album +++ was always intended as a creative effort to try make music that was naive and open eyed in its subject matter and sound pallette. I did not intend to make trendy sounding tracks for DJs. I actually tried to skew away from current sounds and techniques. In the spirit of this competition and the spirit of collaboration, I am looking for collaborators/remixers to take the song 'Monday Comes and Goes' into uncharted territory. I want you to make the song sound like the Summer of 2010. Give 'em what they want and make 'em dance dance dance!!"
A full time audio editor and former Full Sail teacher, SST's engineering abilities are off the charts -
clean, smooth production backed up with total groove workouts. A broad adaptation of neurofunk with Detroit synth sensibilities,
and thickly sculpted drums provide the elements for this mixed genre debut.

Album Stepping Thru Shadows is a unique producer perspective with combining both dubstep and drum n bass and highlighting
the genuine similarities in their construction and form. The album features several vocal tracks
featuring Messinian (Planet of the Drums/Dieselboy vocalist), Collaborator and also
NYC shoegaze rockers The Project_Pale. Dubstep tracks flow with melodic beauty and bass heavy consistency
"Mind of God" is the showcase piece, with a rapid fire flow and massive hook. On the drum n bass side of the album, pure dancefloor
rollers such as Humanity Lost meet creatively spaced out pieces, with the title track Stepping Thru Shadows
illustrating the connection between dnb structure and dubstep break patterns. Articulate and dance oriented, SST's debut album
will be remembered as a high point of connection between dnb and dubstep an electronica based bridge.
To listen to Brett Johnson's Missing You click HERE.

After years of intense negotiation, EIGHT-TRACKS has finally been able to snag an otherworldly release from our favorite psychedelic warrior, renowned DJ/producer Brett Johnson. Brett should need no introduction with his checkered past of releasing top notch bleeps and booms for labels like Classic Music Company, Freerange, and his own Aesoteric imprint. The last few years has found Brett wandering the globe and evading capture but finally our EIGHT-TRACKS team of techno-investigators were able to track him down at his Dallas-based secret headquarters. The result of this confrontation is "Missing You," a gloriously melancholy cut that successfully bridges Brett's affinity for potent house rhythms, Detroit-bred bass lines, and decidedly deeper intentions. It satisfies that necessary primal groove as it successfully strums the heartstrings.

Imprisoned studio warlock Q-Burns Abstract Message was on hand to complement "Missing You" with a suspiciously spacious remix. Drawing inspiration from a pile of broken King Tubby records, Q-BAM's version rattles within a moisture-soaked cell block, building into an analog epiphany further enhanced through a steaming, dusty spring reverb box. Totally slinky for the dancefloor, it aims to beguile the rarely hypnotized.

San Francisco's KONTROL freak Alland Byallo was also enlisted to provide his magic touch to this already enchanted offering. Byallo's treatment finds pounding machinery giving way to a concrete funk, layers of vocal drones and synth bellows providing an aural blanket sprinkled in shimmering melody. Alland's hefty production strips "Missing You" of its melancholy and trades that for an ominous march, providing peak time fireworks when carefully placed in a DJ's set.

Brett Johnson returns to close out the single, wrestling a Space Bump Dub from his original scheme. Here a steady bounce holds the structure as strident tones confront calming synth pads. The vocal from the original returns, now serving as a warm, reassuring force amidst the digital surroundings. The space between the beats matter here, with the listener/dancer given room to comfortably navigate the exotic sonic landscape. It's deep stuff.

Brett Johnson's original and Space Bump Dub were mastered by C-Rock of Motorcitysoul while the remixes were mastered by EIGHT-TRACKS' own Atnarko. The artwork college is by Kyle Eagle (www.myspace.com/olekyleeagle).

EIGHT-TRACKS welcomes you to embrace Brett Johnson's "Missing You" and its crafty reworks, our first statement of 2010 and an encouraging signal for things to come.

Philip Sherburne (Pitchfork/The Wire) – “I’m really feeling the original and the dub alike … such lovely chords and compelling grooves, and that bass! Wonderful.”
Josh Wink (Ovum, US) – “It’s all about the original one. Deep and jackin’!”
Laurent Garnier (DJ, France) – “More lovely deepness from the man. I will play this.”
Doc Martin (DJ, US) – “I’m feeling Q-Burns Abstract Message’s dub vibrations!”
John Selway (DJ, US) – “Brett’s Space Bump Dub for the win!”
Demarkus Lewis (DJ, UK) – “Classic Brett Johnson. I’m loving the Dub and Alland's mix. Very nice!”
Chris Fortier (DJ, US) – “I dig the Space Bump Dub and Alland Byallo’s Remix for my sets. Also, the Q-Burns Abstract Message Remix is very smooth and nice.”
Bangana / Sumo (DJ, Sweden) – “I like the atmospheric sound of the Q.”
Greg Oreck (Thugfucker) – “A fine release from a fine collection of fellows. Nice!”
Deepchild (DJ, Germany) – “Wow. The Q-Burns Abstract Message Remix is disco-tastic, whilst Alland Byallo brings the toughness. A tidy little package.”
Jay West (DJ, Argentina) – “A very solid release. The Space Bump Dub reminds me of the old good days. I will definitely support this!”
Llorca (DJ, France) – “Wow... Alland Byallo's remix is the bomb! But if have to say the whole EP is great. It’s definitely in my (virtual) record-bag.”
Gavin Hardkiss (DJ, US) – “A seriously sick mix by Mr. Q-Burns Abstract Message.”

Michal Ho (Tuning Spork) – “I’m loving the whole release, The original and Space Bump Dub are my faves.”

feat :

Break Science

Break Science is the culmination of a career of beat bending by its brainchild, Adam Deitch. As a drummer and producer Adam has worked with the top names in the game; From Talib Kweli, 50-Cent and Snoop Dogg to John Scofield, John Medeski and his own Lettuce. Break Science takes Deitch’s hip-hop beats and flips them through drum&bass; and a mesh of styles to form a live remix that pushes the boundaries of live electronic music. This is the future – where technique meets technology in a hybrid that only Adam Deitch could imagine.

Virtual Boy

Hot-wiring naughty synth lines and dancefloor-crushing beats with elegant harmonic textures and twisted, pop-cultured hooks, Virtual Boy crafts a grimy, cinematic sound all their own. But even before Virtual Boy had an official release, taste-making DJs spanning packed clubs to BBC Radio were spinning their atmospheric bangers, which owe as much to Bach and Mozart as they do to Justice, evoking Air as much as Virtual Boy’s heroes-in-glitch Nosaj Thing and The Glitch Mob.
