6. Funk That (Mike Magaña ReFunk)

Andru Pozzatron is a DJ and producer based in Ottawa, Canada whose beginnings were steeped in the world of hip hop. Within this genre he learned to mix and scratch, developing a love for phat, funky beats. Pozzatron's eventual transformation to a house music DJ came through chance meetings with the music in darkened nightclubs as well as global visits to the vibrant scenes in Ibiza and Rio de Janeiro. Now Andru Pozzatron is a house-head through and through, but still drawing upon an eclectic musical background to bring different styles into his overall sound.

Pozzatron saw the opportunity of his debut release for Deepfunk Records as a chance to play with his known technique as his tracks usually go the more aggressive dance floor route. Inspired by the label's name Pozzatron created a duo of cuts brimming with funk and deep, driving beats. Christened Funk That this single delivers its promise of floor-shaking house jackers, complete with bouncy bass quakes and rhythmic vocal hits. It's not too far off from Pozzatron's hip hop past as many of the same production aesthetics are here making these tracks huge, beat heavy, and funked out.

The title track immediately grabs with a boldly sputtered vocal sample on top of beefy drums, disco stabs, and crunchy, swelling bass notes. This modus operandi is continued with the b-side “It's Party Time” exhibiting serious sonic squelch powering some seriously skippy jackin' rhythms. “Funk That” is treated to four berserk remixes: Camouflage, Corduroy Mavericks, Go Go Bizkitt!, and Mike Magaña doing the do. UK-via-South Africa DJ Camouflage (Funkfield, Greenhouse, ChicagoHouse.FM) offers a more percussive interpretation containing wild breakdowns, synth builds, and ominous vocal drops. We return to the USA for Kentucky-based production duo Corduroy Mavericks (Flapjack, Alphabet) who contribute a hard-hitting remix adding 80's funk synth and vocal elements over deadly low-end beats. Go Go Bizkitt!, coming off the beloved StutterFunk EP on Deepfunk, add a touch of disco and a bounty of crazed effects in a club-decimating remix treatment. Finally, Los Angeles' resident DJ of the HAWT parties Mike Magaña supplies the deepest mix of the set. A warm low end, keyboard chord stabs, and a playful staccato rhythm melody combine to make Magaña's mix the choice of many DJs.

All in all, Andru Pozzatron's “Funk That” leads a solid package filled with assured dancefloor prowess. We'll keep you posted for more to come from Deepfunk Records, the label that truly funks ya!

What they’re saying:
DJ Mes (Guesthouse) - "Great package! Creative sampling and nice production on the two originals. Hard to pick a favorite remix, they are all top class."
LawnChair Generals - "It's a good funky time for all."
Johnny Fiasco - "Prime time slammers!"
Jay West - "The Corduroy Mavericks Remix is cool."
Jason Hodges - "Jam PACKED!"
Miles Maeda - "I love the frenetic Daft Punk-ian disco of the Go Go Bizkitt! Remix."
Tom Findlay (Groove Armada) - "I like the original and Mike Magaña mixes."
Rick Preston - "Please don't make me pick just one favorite! Every track is bumpin!!"
Doc Link (Liberate Recordings) - "A true ride on F-U-N-K!!! Lovin' this! In the bag tonight!"
Nobody's music hits harder than this Chicago legend's. With energy to spare and a personality to match, DJ Psycho-Bitch grabs your attention and never lets up.

Psycho-Bitch's career is one that spans over two decades, and it's also one that has established her as a pioneering force in underground music. From the smooth, textured quality of her opening sets to the slam-bang-boom of her peak hours, Psycho's musical arrangements are both stunning and flawless in their execution. 70-percent of her sets are dedicated to new music, and her rhythmic assault takes no prisoners.

It doesn't come without effort, though. Psycho has pounded the pavement since day one—promoting events, researching musical styles and techniques, and keeping her senses tuned to the street. The results speak for themselves: she's spun at nearly every venue in the Midwest, and has hundreds of guest-spots, both nationally and internationally, under her belt.

DJ Psycho-Bitch has won numerous awards, polls and contests, including "Best DJ," by Chicago Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, and City Search, just to name a few.

Psycho presently spins at Circuit Nightclub and Holiday Club in Chicago, and continues making guest appearances everywhere, including the occasional six-turntable show with her stage partner, DJ Teri Bristol.

Don't miss this Chicago Legend!
~~THIS IS ALEX FINO~~
It’s no surprise Alex Fino is a DJ and producer. Having picked up his first instrument, a guitar, at age thirteen, music has always played a very large role in his life. Growing up in Mexico, Alex absorbed all the provocative and alluring sounds of the region. That deep-rooted influence is heard today in both his productions and live sets.

At eighteen, Alex left Mexico to attend college in Los Angeles. It was during his time in Southern California that Alex joined a band, began to hone his skills as a performer and developed a general love for stirring a crowd and thrilling audiences. While attending college, his band performed throughout California at well -known venues including Whiskey a Go Go, Roxy, Viper Room and local universities. It is also during this time that Alex was introduced to the world of electronic music at a variety of venues, including weekly staple events like Marques Wyatt’s “Does Your Mama Know” and “Deep”, super clubs like Spundae, and Giant and rave events all over the Los Angeles area.

Alex began DJing over eleven years ago and has never looked back. He has performed for audiences in South Africa, New York, Los Angeles and everywhere in between. From the late 1990’s to 2008, Alex held residencies throughout Los Angeles, including Dragon Bar, Shane, Republic and Cruz Room.

Alex met his production partner Gabriel D Vine at one such event, and together they began producing House music under the moniker “Monkey Bars”. Monkey Bars has seen a tremendous success, releasing tracks on many major House labels – Subliminal Records, Om, Moonshine, Warner Brothers and more recently Slip’N’Slide, and Delecto. Coming soon Monkey Bars will add Gossip Records. to that distinguished list. Monkey Bars tracks have received considerable support from a diverse group of fellow DJs and producers, including: Erick Morillo, Mark Farina, Seb Fontaine, Steve Lawler, Pete Tong, D. Ramirez and Christian Alvarez. Additionally, Monkey Bars have produced music for TV and film. Recently, Alex has sought to further expand his collaborative endeavors. He is currently working on tracks with Gossip producer Matt Soda and local St. Louis DJ/Producer T-Lectual.

Whether it’s Funky, Jackin or at times Disco beats chugging beneath his whimsical, rich melodies, Alex Fino never fails to conjure a seductive sound. Physical beats meld with dense harmonies and musical layers of jazz, rock, disco, funk, samba, and there’s always a surprise. With his proficient musicianship bolstered by raw innate talent, Alex Fino shines in the DJ booth. His taste is unparalleled, his technique flawless, and his energy irresistible.

While many artists have lost sight of what it means to have fun with music in clubs, Alex Fino brings the playground to the floor and even the adults out there will be taken to a magical place of musical rapture.

Sub.mission Presents Datsik

This is a make up show for the three year catastrophe. For those of you who rocked out with us for our 3 Year despite the change in line up, bring your ticket stub to Cervantes ASAP and receive a $5 admittance Fee for this show.
You must have your ticket stub for proof.
DATSIK
http://www.myspace.com/djdatsik

Only in the Dubstep scene a short time, 21 year old Datsik (Troy B.) has wasted no time by making his presence be known internationally, introducing his own unique style of industrial sounding futuristic beats and heavy dance floor stomping rhythms. His latest successes on the Beatports “Top Download” charts are a testament that his music is being recognized by listeners all over the world, with multiple releases hitting number 1 on Beatport and Chemical-Records for extended periods of time. It is very well possible that he has been the first dubstep artist to ever hold 5 out of the top 10 best selling tunes at once on Beatport. He has also earned the attention of some of the most notable and influential acts in the scene to date such as Bassnectar, Skream, Rusko, & DJ Craze, to name a few. With the Rottun Recordings label behind him, he has been hard at work, working on many tunes, collaborations, and remixes for some of the biggest names in the world. In a genre with increasing popularity, he continues to devote his time and energy into pioneering a distinct sound that will transform it to the next level, and set him above the rest. He has demonstrated his skills time and time again to packed audiences, on each occasion leaving them in a state of disbelief.
Full Moon Gathering
Saturday, July 24

Corey Scott (Space Pirate, Dorje Records)
Jacqueline (in2deep)
tenstrip (live PA)

Info and guidelines:
This month's Full Moon will be at the same location as June, if you attended. We will be emailing directions out the day before. Since last month people were subscribing to our email list after we sent the directions out, this month they will be posted on the home page of our site as well (http://heartheearth.org).

Due to the nature of the location and our arrangement with the owner, we must request that all attendees be 21+ with ID, no exceptions, sorry!

Camping is encouraged! Plan on showing up before sunset on Saturday, so you can easily set up camp, and enjoy the music which will be starting right around dusk, and going til just past sunrise.

Because this is private land and we must pay our expenses (including portapotties), we are asking for a *suggested* $10 donation. As always, no one will be turned away if they cannot afford it, but your generous support helps these events continue. Thank you!

Leave No Trace! It is your responsibility to pack out whatever you brought, this includes cigarette butts, bottles, flyers, anything.
